Question

One of my clients asked me for a price to wash 600 windows at one of his commercial buildings. The building is new, the windows look in fairly good shape, but they still has the construction stickers on them. The windows are on 3 floors, 200 on each. I would like some help in putting the price together. I will most definitely rent a lift to cover the second and third floor. The first floor will also need to be reached with a small ladder. Thank you!

Answer

You need to determine the average time to pull the label and wash each side, remembering that there will be some time spent moving from one opening to the next. Do the work on a similar size opening and time the effort. Then, do the math.
The labels used on glass these days seem to be easy peel, but make sure. All you may need is a razor blade scraper to start the corner and then a quick pull to remove the sticker. Best you check the ease of removal first and allow more time if they prove difficult.
You could save considerable time on the outside glass by using a water-fed pole system that feeds de-mineralized water up to the brush and eliminates the squeegee work as well as the time moving a platform or lift truck bucket outside the building. If you go up against someone using that increasingly popular system, you will lose the bid on time cost alone, so be certain to consider it.
